The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Legislation Lawyer for an initial 6 month secondment to support the Legal Division within a high profile Commonwealth Department.

This position is for acandidate with significant experience in drafting legislation and legislative instruments that will be subject to Ministerial determination.

The Responsibilities

The position requires the successful candidate work closely with the broader team to:

• provide advice on legislation development and design;
• prepare drafting instructions for primary legislation;
• work with and take instructions from policy areas and work collaboratively to refine and translate policy intent into drafting instructions; and
• manage competing priorities and work independently and within a team environment.

The Requirements

Extensive experience drafting significant Commonwealth legislative amendment projects and knowledge of emissions accounting and climate change law would be highly regarded.

Legal qualifications, a current practicing certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a Baseline Security Clearance (or ability to obtain one) are required.
